What is the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS, was established in July 2013 and is a government-run program that provides financial assistance to eligible Australians who have been born with or have acquired a permanent and significant disability.

The NDIS covers a wide range of necessary support and services, including but not limited to mobility aids, home modifications, personal care assistance, and therapeutic supports. Most importantly, they help people with disabilities to achieve their personal goals, whether that be finding employment, going to school, or living independently. It is needs-based scheme, which means that it assesses each person's individual needs and provides the supports that are required to meet those needs.

The NDIS is not means-tested, which means that everyone who is eligible for support can receive it, regardless of their financial circumstances.

To be eligible for the NDIS, applicants must have a permanent disability that significantly impacts their ability to complete everyday activities. The NDIS is an important safety net for Australians with disabilities, and has helped many people to live fuller and more independent lives.
