What is a Speech Pathologist?

Speech Pathologists are healthcare professionals who specialise in diagnosing and treating communication disorders. This can include difficulties with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering, and using voice.

Speech Pathologists also work with those who experience difficulties swallowing food and to drink safely with an aim of improving their independence and quality of life.    They will:

  • Identify the areas in which the person needs assistance

  • Develop a plan to address these difficulties

  •  Provide support and guidance to help the person overcome their difficulties

Working With You

At Well Balanced Care, we work closely with children and adults who experience communication difficulties because of developmental disorders, brain injuries, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, dementia, and hearing loss.

Our Speech Pathologists will do an assessment to determine the type and severity of the difficulties experienced. They will then develop a specific plan in partnership with the participant customised to improve their communication skills and quality of life.

Working together our speech pathologists can make a significant impact towards participants achieving their goals and living their lives the way they want.
